What am I eating in January?

Savoy cabbage: look at at that crinkly greenliness in the depths of January
No dig parsnip: ironically, this one needed two people to dig it out. Super-long. Accidentally discovered that when you cut parsnips too small and roast in too hot an oven, it not just burns, but turns into addictively delicious crisps! Hurray!
Other foodstuff:
1. Blackberry jam on homemade sourdough. Yum!
2. Gem Squash - soup, roasted with pasta, in spag bol, etc.
3. Frozen Carrot/coriander soup
4. Frozen tomatoes in all sorts of curries and sauces
5. Frozen Courgette soup. Yum!
6. Apples, still going, stored in unplugged freezer, but kids won't eat them.
7. Ate all the sweetpotatoes last week. Small harvest but awesome taste.

What else is growing:
Sowed broadbeans in modules around xmas and left in polytunnel. Looking all ready to hop into the ground.
Garlic, planted early December, reluctantly starting to sprout.
Sweetpotato sprouting in water, started off late December.

Failures last year:
Half the tomato plants died. Peppers, chili. Beetroot, Rocket, celery, fennel, kale. Leeks still pencil thin. Never seem to do well with them, probably sow them too late? Purple cauliflower a write off, along with a load of other stuff. Probably the seed compost was too green. So this time, I've bought John Innes. Hmm... watch the space...

My REALSEEDS order arrived on Jan 8th! No more F1 seeds.
